Beyond These Stars Power Guide: Connect Buildings & Check Output

Beyond These Stars / Windows PC / 1.0 through Hotfix 3 (18 October 2026); checked 19 October 2026

In Beyond These Stars PC 1.0, a power-consuming building needs a connected Power Generator. Select the generator and check its actual power range, then inspect the consuming building’s connection and requirements. A green placement tile alone does not establish working power: Hotfix 3 corrected a case where green tiles appeared without connected generation.

Check the power chain before moving the district

Section titled “Check the power chain before moving the district”

Prerequisite: you have reached a tutorial or settlement task that uses a Power Generator and a power-consuming building. This route does not skip technology or construction requirements.

  1. Check the installed patch. Hotfix 1, released 17 October, corrected the line displayed when a Power Generator is selected: it now shows power range rather than pollution range. Hotfix 3, released 18 October, corrected misleading green placement tiles. Compare the installed version before following a demonstration recorded earlier.
  2. Select the generator, rather than only the consumer. Inspect the generator’s current production state. Read the requirements shown for that building and provide any missing input, worker or construction requirement that the panel actually reports. A placed generator and a completed, producing generator are different states.
  3. Use the generator’s power boundary. Check the consuming building against the displayed power area. Do not use the pollution boundary from an old guide as a spacing rule, and do not assume a fixed radius that is not shown in your game.
  4. Select the consuming building. Confirm whether it has a generator connection. Recheck this after moving either building. A green tile while placing the building is not a substitute for this connection check.
  5. Check the production task separately. If the consumer has power but is not making anything, read its remaining requirements and current recipe. Restore the missing condition named there rather than adding more generators by default.
  6. Change one condition, then inspect again. Confirm construction has completed and allow the relevant production action to occur. Reopen both buildings and check whether output and the consumer’s state now change. Avoid moving several factories at once: that hides which change affected the result.
Power check sequence: inspect generator output, compare its power range, verify the consumer connection, then inspect the consumer’s own recipe requirements.

Observation Next useful check What it does not prove
Generator is placed but not producing Read its construction and production requirements in its own panel. Placement does not mean output has begun.
Consumer reports no power Compare the current generator range and inspect the connection. A nearby building is not automatically connected.
Placement tiles are green Confirm connection after placement, especially on a pre-Hotfix 3 build. Green tiles alone are not a power guarantee.
Consumer has power but no output Check that consumer’s selected recipe and remaining displayed requirements. More power cannot replace a different missing input.
Several chains slow together Check food, housing, pollution and Peep wellbeing as well as generation. A settlement-wide slowdown is not necessarily an electricity problem.
A built-up Beyond These Stars settlement with roads and production buildings on Kewa’s terrain.
Keep the generator and the consuming building in the same inspection loop. This overview is not a verified power-radius overlay.

The release had a placement-display defect: a Power Consuming building could show valid green tiles in an area with no connected Power Generator. Hotfix 3 explicitly fixes that display case. Hotfix 1 separately changes the generator selection line from pollution range to power range. These are two different changes, so an old image of a range line and a new placement highlight should not be treated as identical evidence.

Neither patch note establishes that every stalled factory, pathfinding problem or existing save is repaired. If the installed build is current and output, range and connection all look correct, keep a separate save and record both building panels before changing the layout further. There is no verified universal spacing trick or guaranteed save repair in this guide.

Expand a functioning chain in small steps and inspect what becomes scarce. The game combines production with Peep needs and a fragile living landscape. Pollution can hurt the settlement and Kewa, while unhappy Peeps can disrupt work. Read the Kewa care route before filling every nearby tile with industry.

The exact generator recipe and numerical range remain the values shown by your installed building. This guide deliberately gives a connection workflow rather than borrowing numbers from Before We Leave, the demo or an unverified release screenshot.
