Beyond These Stars Kewa Happiness Guide: Health, Heat & Biome

Beyond These Stars / Windows PC / 1.0 through Hotfix 3 (18 October 2026); checked 19 October 2026

To improve Kewa’s happiness in Beyond These Stars, care for the living biome and watch temperature as well as dialogue. Plant trees, minimise pollution and create rivers around settlements. Supportive conversation can help mood, but it does not replace biome care. Health and happiness are related signals with different effects; excessive heat can lead an unhappy Kewa to travel somewhere cold.

This guide covers Windows PC 1.0 through Hotfix 3. It does not supply hidden score thresholds, exact dialogue point values or a guaranteed ending recipe.

  1. Check Kewa’s happiness and health separately. Use Kewa’s displayed state to distinguish poor mood from a damaged biome. A pleasant dialogue choice is not evidence that polluted land is healthy.
  2. Inspect the settlement’s impact. Look for industrial pollution and degraded living space. Deal with the polluted areas before extending the same industrial pattern into more of Kewa’s terrain. The task is to reduce the pressure, not simply to add another production line.
  3. Give the biome room to recover. Plant trees, minimise pollution and create rivers around the settlement. The landscape supports your city; treating every available patch as a factory site works against that goal. No fixed tree count or instant recovery time is established here.
  4. Check the current travel environment. Staying too long in a hot region can harm Kewa’s health and happiness. Use the travel choices you have unlocked to plan a more moderate stop instead of staying indefinitely for one resource. Kewa can initiate emergency travel to somewhere cold when heat and unhappiness become a problem.
  5. Choose conversation with care. Hurtful responses can lower happiness, while positive ones can raise it. Read the actual choice; this is not a universal “pick the top option” solution. Health milestones also unlock conversations and memories, which may be positive or negative.
  6. Check the next production cycle and travel state. Revisit the meters after changing the biome or location. Continue caring for Peep food, homes and production while doing so; Kewa’s mood is not a replacement for their needs.

Health, happiness and stamina are different

Signal What affects it or happens next Practical action
Health Biome care, pollution and temperature matter. Healthy Kewa travels faster and health milestones can open memories. Care for the land before trying to solve everything through conversation.
Happiness Health, temperature and what you say can affect mood. Very happy Kewa can spawn Kewa Fruit Trees, helping Peeps’ happiness. Read the meter and dialogue together; preserve a healthy biome.
Poor health Thorny Stems can appear and have negative effects on Peeps. Treat them as a warning to investigate the underlying conditions.
Stamina A low-stamina Kewa can detour through debris to feed. Falling debris can break buildings. Check for damage after the detour and repair affected buildings before relying on their output.

Once travel is unlocked, use the Galaxy Map to choose destinations; initial visibility is partial and expands as you progress. Temperature affects Peeps and crop growth as well as Kewa, so a resource stop has consequences beyond what is available to mine there. A long hot stop can create a wellbeing problem even when the settlement’s production initially looks fine.

Before leaving, inspect damaged buildings and keep essential production functioning. After a feeding detour, check buildings again: a loss of output may come from debris damage. For an undamaged powered building, follow the generator-to-consumer checks before rebuilding a whole district.

Hotfix 3 prevents a collision between conversations that could block progress. It does not repair every game already in that state. The described symptom is an in-progress conversation in the Whale Communicator with no choices available, leaving you unable to leave that UI.

Do not treat that specific state as a happiness puzzle and keep changing the biome to solve it. Preserve a separate save and compare later patch notes for an explicit repair. There is no confirmed recovery sequence in the checked Hotfix 3 announcement, and this guide does not recommend deleting your save or promise that reloading fixes it.

You have a workable care plan when you can identify the current health, happiness and temperature problem, name the next landscape or travel action, and keep your essential Peep supply chain operating while it takes effect. A single fruit tree or one friendly conversation is not proof that every underlying condition is solved.
